THE FEMALE EXTERNAL GENITALIA

The female external genitalia includes mons pubis, labia majora, labia minora , hymen and clitoris. The first layer is mons pubis which is a cushion of fatty tissue covered by skin and pubic hair. Inside that labia majora layers are present which are fleshy folds tissue, which extends down from mons pubis to vagina opening. Then labia minora are paired folds of tissue under labia majora. The opening of vagina is covered partially by a membrane called hymen. The clitoris is a tiny figure-like structure which lies at the upper junction of two labia minora above urethral opening.

NOTE : The clitoris is the female erectile tissue which gets broad when female orgasm happens or during intercourse.

The hymen often torn during the first coitus(intercourse). However, it can be broken by sudden fall or jolt, during insertion of vaginal tampon, active participation in sports like horseback riding, cycling, etc. In some female, hymen persist even after coitus. In fact, the presence or absence of hymen is not a reliable indicator of virginity or sexual experience.

NOTE : Vaginal tampon is a contraception method used in USA by women. They insert themselves which can lead to damage of hymen layer.

A full functional mammary gland is characteristic of all female mammals. The mammary glands are paired structure (breasts) that contains glandular tissue and variable amount of fat. The breast development in females takes place during puberty. The glandular layer(Adipose tissue) of each breasts is divided into 15-20 mammary lobes containing cluster of cells called alveoli. The cells of alveoli secretes milk, which is stored in lumen of alveoli. It opens into mammary tubules. Tubules of each lobes join to make mammary duct.  Several mammary duct join to form mammary ampulla which is connected to lactiferous duct through which milk is sucked out.
